It’s been seven months since we welcomed Sekura.id into the XConnect family, and together we’re creating new opportunities for customers and strong momentum in our business. The synergies between XConnect’s number information services (NIS) and Sekura’s powerful suite of APIs for advanced validation, verification and authentication are providing our expanded customer base with solutions that deliver trust, accuracy, and innovation.
APIs and Innovation
Over the years, XConnect’s DNA has been defined by our relentless drive to reduce fraud, restore trust, and deliver accurate, trusted network and subscriber intelligence. Sekura.id shared that same DNA. The team built a global reputation as a leader in fraud and risk mitigation for enterprise solutions across e-commerce, banking, fintech, and digital enablement.
By uniting our strengths, we are redefining what trusted telecom data can do. Our global number intelligence is now enhanced with a suite of mobile identity APIs, from SIM Swap detection to call forwarding checks and secure silent authentication, creating a single, carrier-grade source of truth for both identity verification and fraud prevention.
For a variety of operational, security and data privacy reasons, the mobile industry is moving from legacy protocols like SS7 to API-driven architectures. This evolution is at the heart of XConnect’s strategy. APIs give operators, CPaaS providers, and enterprises a fast, flexible way to embed trust into their services without costly infrastructure changes. This includes SIM swap, call forwarding, and number verification APIs that meet the highest global security standards. Combined with XConnect’s numbering intelligence, it gives partners the power to verify, authenticate, and protect a range of digital interactions in real time.
Why This Matters More than Ever
The timing could not be more important. Fraud is on the rise, and now worth over $1 trillion a year. The global identity verification market is projected to grow from $284m in 2025 to $8.1 billion by 2030, according to Juniper Research. This is driven by the need to fight increasing digital fraud and the tightening of regulations around the world. Account takeover fraud in the UK’s telecoms and online retail sectors rose by 76% in 2024, according to CIFAS Fraudscape Report.
At the same time, SIM swap fraud, deepfake scams, and sophisticated phishing continue to erode trust across digital channels. Over the summer, the BBC reported that a UK businessman fell victim to SIM Swap fraud and had £250,000 stolen from his accounts.
Regulators are responding. We’re seeing adoption of stronger authentication methods in the UK, India, Singapore, UAE, Malaysia, and beyond, from age verification to secure banking transactions. This is driving demand for services like ours that are both compliant and easy to deploy.
The industry is also mobilising. Organisations like the One Consortium, Global Informal Regulatory Antifraud Forum (GIRAF), GSMA, i3Forum, and the Mobile Ecosystem Forum (MEF) are all rallying MNOs, technology providers, and regulators around the shared mission of tackling fraud at scale. This collective momentum reinforces our belief that trusted data, delivered through a combination of Network APIs & Number Information Services, is central to the future of secure communications.
We remain deeply involved in the initiatives shaping the trusted telecoms future. XConnect, through its acquisition of Sekura.id, is an active participant in GSMA’s Open Gateway programme and The Linux Foundation’s CAMARA project. These are important forums for advancing interoperable, high-security APIs that work across borders and networks.
We are now seeing possibly some of the largest global traffic numbers in the Network API industry to date - where for just one customer, for one API, in one territory, we are receiving over 10,000 calls per minute.
Sekura.id’s GSMA Open Gateway certification demonstrates compliance with the highest global standards, and our history of involvement in shaping mobile identity APIs, going back decades, gives us a unique perspective on how these services can evolve.
What It Means for Customers
For our customers, this integration delivers immediate benefits:
- Faster time to market – Deploy advanced identity and anti-fraud capabilities in days, not months.
- Reduced fraud risk – Protect users against SIM swap, call forwarding fraud, and account takeover with trusted network data.
- Regulatory compliance - Meet new authentication mandates with solutions that are standards-aligned and globally recognised.
- Operational efficiency - Access numbering and identity intelligence through a single API stack, reducing complexity and cost.
We are already seeing uptake from sectors where trust is business-critical like banking, payments, e-commerce, and government services. In each case, the combination of accurate number intelligence and real-time mobile identity is proving to be a powerful proposition.
The Next 12 Months
Our roadmap is ambitious.
Over the next 12 months, we will:
- Continue to enhance our additional layer of security on our Silent Authentication solution and prepare for the next-gen with WiFi support.
- Launch enhanced device-based authentication methods that are cryptographically secure and designed for silent authentication.
- Continue to gow our operator footprint, increasing the coverage and depth of both our numbering and identity intelligence.
- Deliver combined fraud prevention and identity verification services, combined with analytics as part of integrated CPaaS and UC partner offerings.
- Further integrate AI and machine-learning to define what “normal” telecom behaviour looks like, protecting networks and identity information from AI-powered fraud.
AI can analyse billions of pieces of information at scale. It can also spot vulnerabilities across an entire network and solve the issue, prioritising data security, strengthening capabilities and developing our validation services even more. As fraudsters innovate in AI, we are innovating in parallel.
Trust, Identity and the Big Picture
Ultimately, our goal is the same as it has always been to make global communications and digital transactions safer, more transparent, and more trusted. By expanding our capabilities into mobile identity, we are addressing the root of many fraud problems: the gap between who someone claims to be and who they really are.
We are giving our customers, whether they are operators, CPaaS providers, enterprises, or technology partners, the tools to close that gap, meet regulatory requirements, and deliver secure, seamless user experiences.
Five months in, it’s clear this acquisition has already strengthened our ability to deliver on that promise and there’s plenty more to come.
Thank you to our teams, customers, and partners for your trust and collaboration. Together, we are building a digital ecosystem where identity and trust are not afterthoughts, but foundations for future growth.
