NEW SERVICE WILL ENABLE NETWORK OPERATORS TO OFFER CROSS-NETWORK VOIP AND NEXT GENERATION MULTIMEDIA SERVICES EASILY AND COST-EFFECTIVELY

FRANKFURT, 04 September, 2012 – DE-CIX, the world’s largest internet exchange (IX) in partnership with XConnect, the leader in Federation-based next generation interconnection and ENUM Registry services, today announced the launch of DE-CIX NGN. This new service is aimed at resolving the emerging challenges in the telecoms market, in particular the seamless, multilateral interconnection of different networks for Next Generation Network communications and Voice over IP (VoIP).

The migration to all-IP Next Generation and VoIP networks offers many benefits to network operators, enabling them to improve their competitive positioning through the reduction of costs while at the same time driving new revenues by offering new value added services, such as HD Voice, Video and Unified Communications (UC).

However, the complexities and costs of NGN interconnection have become a central concern for operators. Currently the traditional TDM-based interconnect infrastructure cannot support IP interconnection between networks, meaning the cost benefits of NGN are lost and new services are restricted to within the operator’s own network and customers.

The DE-CIX NGN service resolves these challenges by offering national and international network operators a secure hub for NGN interconnection, with benefits including:

• Multilateral NGN interconnection to multiple networks, by-passing the PSTN, and reducing the need to create and manage numerous commercially and technically onerous bilateral IP interconnects
• Improved Voice quality and support for higher-value multimedia services
• Number portability corrected routing via a Centralised Number Portability database (CDB) to ensure accurate call routing
• Policy control to define and manage the technical terms of each interconnection and support for different settlement models between operators
• Reduction of capital and operating expenses, transit charges, and resource requirements for creating and managing interconnects, from interoperability testing to implementation

The new service combines DE-CIX’s extensive market reach and experience of managing high volume internet exchange services with XConnect’s expertise in deploying federation-based interconnection and ENUM registry services.

“The new DE-CIX NGN services will make it efficient for telecom service providers in Germany and around the globe to extend their interconnects to VoIP to exchange Voice and multimedia services,” said DE-CIX CEO Harald Summa. “We are excited to launch the DE-CIX NGN service and see it as the perfect addition to the high quality IP peering services that are already offered over the well-reputed DE-CIX infrastructure.”

XConnect CEO Eli Katz said: “The partnership with DE-CIX once again demonstrates XConnect’s successful strategy of delivering cutting edge ENUM-based federation services globally. The DE-CIX NGN service will enable operators to deliver new, revenue-rich multimedia services such as HD Voice, Video and Unified Communications on a cross-network basis, while at the same time reducing operational costs. ”

“It is a great credit to the XConnect and DE-CIX’s operational and engineering teams to have implemented the underlying systems, technology and training that support the DE-CIX NGN on time and I am proud to say that we are ready for service as scheduled. We look forward to a long and fruitful collaboration with DE-CIX to deliver essential NGN federation interconnection services in Germany.”
The DE-CIX NGN will be officially launched on Wednesday 13th September at the DE-CIX Meeting Center in Frankfurt. For further details and to register to attend the event please visit http://www.de-cix.net/news-events/launch-ngn-en
